The OMG-COMM8-A provides the PC with eight RS-232 Asynchronous ports for terminals, data collection and other devices. This product includes extended ╥AT╙ interrupts, extended address range for UNIX, XENIX and QNX compatibility, and an interrupt status port for greater data throughput. Set each port to a separate interrupt or share a single interrupt across multiple ports under Windows NT.

A serial utility diskette is supplied with the OMG-COMM8-A which includes all the Windows and DOS tools necessary to verify the installation and operation of the board. Windows utilities include .INF files for Windows installation and also a Windows NT COM: Port Installation Utility. DOS utilities include a diagnostic program to verify card address and examine the UART, a diagnostic serial loopback test program and an interrupt driven DOS serial port driver which provides fully buffered interrupt driven input and output to multiple asynchronous serial communication ports. The driver is a BIOS extension and/or replacement that provides extended capabilities in the form of block I/O and user configurable flow control support in addition to emulating standard BIOS interrupt 14h calls. The driver supports C, C++ and BASIC.
